Record revenues are being reported by the The Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation, which operates the casinos in Regina and Moose Jaw.
The company posted a net income of $43.8 million in the most recent fiscal year, according to a financial report released yesterday. SGC reported revenues of $128.7 million -- a 15- percent increase over the previous year -- and expenses of $75.7 million for the year ended March 31, 2008. A big portion of the expenses were promotions to attract new gamblers to the casinos. About half of the gaming firm's profits are directed to the provincial government's general revenue fund. That keeps taxes lower for consumers. The so-called Community Initiatives Fund and First Nations Trust Fund also each receive 25 percent of the net profits. The money supports non-profit and economic development organizations and funding for projects in tribal communities. According to the annual report, slot revenues were $104.1 million, whilst table revenues were $10.4 million for the 2007-08 fiscal year. Daily attendance for Casino Regina was 6,639, on average, and 1,588 per day in Moose Jaw. Variety of card and table games
