Online Poker as a Career

The only problem is that so many people fall short in these goals for one reason or the next. For instance, some people make a lot of money but they absolutely loathe going to the office everyday of the week. On the other side of things, there are many people who have a great time at work but they come up well short in the money department. If you are looking for a way to break this mold, and online poker is something that suits your fancy, you may want to think about making the leap to the big time. That is right; take your hobby of playing online poker and turn it into a great career.
But before you decide you are going to be the next great online poker star, you need to consider what goes into this. After all, if a full time career as an online poker player was easy, everybody who plays would be doing it.
Here are five tips that may allow you to ditch your current career, and start playing online poker full time.
1. Before you decide to make the change, you need to have some “back up reserves” in the bank. In other words, you are going to need some money to get you through the tough times at the beginning of your new career. As a general rule of thumb, make sure that you have about six months worth of living expenses in the bank that you can draw on. This may not sound like much, but if times get rough and you cannot buy a good hand, you will be glad that you have this money.
2. Talk to other players that compete at online poker full time. You may not personally know anybody that fits this mold, but if you search online you should be able to find somebody who would be glad to lend you some advice. The reason that you want to do this is simple. Somebody who has experience in this type of career can give you advice on what to do, what not to do, and much more.
3. Find an online poker room that you feel comfortable with. If you are going to spend hours each day online, you need to make sure that you are playing in an online poker room that suits all of your needs. Remember, there are hundreds of services out there. You need to narrow down all the options, and then choose the one that you will be able to visit each day without any problems.
4. Take into consideration the fact that you can win a lot of money playing in online poker tournaments. Even though you may not want to start out like this, you should look into these tournaments sooner rather than later. If you get on a good run and win a high stakes online poker tournament you will be well on your way to a great career.
5. Learn how to budget your money from day one. A full time online poker career is anything but stable. There will be days when you win a lot, and days when you lose a lot. For this reason, you need to know what it takes to budget your money with success. This has nothing to do with actually playing online poker, but everything to do with the amount of success that you achieve in the long run. Remember, you are only as good as your budgeting skills. Even if you are winning a lot, if you are not keeping a close watch on your money you are not going to have enough to live.
It takes guts, determination, and dedication to be a full time online poker player. But guess what? There are a lot of people who are living this life. If you think that you have what it takes, make the leap when you feel comfortable doing so. Just remember to keep the above five tips right next to your computer. They will help to guide you along the path of success!
